I've adopted the caribbean islands Antigua and Barbuda the two islands are basically sisters because they are side by side. Antigua is the big sister and Barbuda is the little sister.  Sometimes, Antigua likes to bully her smaller sibling Barbuda. Antigua is flowing with heavy tourism and tons of overseas investments. Life in Antigua is like night and day comparing Barbuda's community. Barbuda has a very quiet slow paced cultural environment; the island only consist of about two thousand residences compared to Antigua's 80,000. Mostly everyone in Barbuda knows each other on a first name bases; everyone on the island is practically family( Hook ). { BRIDGE } Antigua wants the Barbudan's to let go of the old barbarian age and allow more touristy activities and foreign investors inside of Barbuda to help the economy. For Barbuda to allow foreign investors in to bring tourist attractions it would mean that they'd have to sell them land. The issue with that is all land

Little Cog-Burt vs. Cotton Candy

Image
In the short stories “Little Cog-Burt” and “Cotton Candy” there are quite a bit of relations between the two stories. For starters both stories were written by female authors from the Caribbean. Little Cog-Burt was written by Phyllis Shand Allfrey an activist and journalist. The short story Cotton-Candy was written by Dora Alonso, she also had a background in journalism. Dora Also portrayed her activist side through her fiction stories by bringing political injustices to the forefront. Each story starts off with a ritual. At the beginning of Little Cog-Burt, Moira is cutting off her hair to make a Christmas tree fairy. Every year at Christmas she cuts off her hair to make dolls and gives them to the children. At the beginning of   the short story Cotton Candy, Lola is killing butterflies..she does this year after year and gives the dead butterflies to the guy she likes. Moira and her family has money. Her children attend a boarding school and her husband is the owner of a

In the short story “Tetiyette and the Devil,” the anonymous author used prose and poetry to describe a real life love story and life lessons. This story is about a young guadeloupean girl faced with tough decisions to make about her relationship with her life partner and her family. The author develops her story by using images of a goat, pig and devil. In the beginning of the story Tetiyette is visited by three potential life mates. The first mate was described as a goat, the second man a pig, and the third man a very charming gentleman. Tetiyette is young but she is of marrying age. Each man that went to visit Tetiyette came to the mother and asked if they could have a drink of water. The mother would then grab one of her daughters most beautiful silver cups and give the suitor a drink. Then, he would ask to see her daughter but the mother always replied that is was the daughters choice. Tetiyette turned away the first two guys but the third was different. The third visitor w

The islands I’ve adopted are Antigua and Barbuda. Antigua is pronounced An-TEE’-ga. It is also known as “Waladii or Wadadii” by the native population. Barbuda, BAR-BUU-dah.. Antigua and Barbuda are twin islands in the Americas located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The official language is English. St. John’s is the capital of Antigua and Barbuda, it is the commercial center of the nation and the country’s main port. There are several activities to do on the island, zip-lining in the rain forest, sugar cane tours, casinos, and tons of museums. Some popular sports on the islands are cricket, sport fishing, wind surfing, and kite surfing. The islands received the named “Land of 365 Beaches” because it is surrounded by beaches. The weather is pretty good it is usually around 70 degrees to 80 degrees year round. The beautiful beaches are covered in soft powdery white sands and blue waters. You’ll want to come back again and again to enjoy them.

Hello, ladies and gents welcome to my blog. For starters let me introduce myself. My name is Meriah Willis and I’m a second semester Freshman at GGC. I’m currently majoring in Biology but my plan is to switch my major to nursing. I’m originally from Grenada, not the island but a very small town located in Mississippi. Yes, home of the Southern belle and the Mississippi Magnolia’s. I moved to Georgia about three years ago and as of right now I’m enjoying the “Big PEACH.” Naturally, I’m super extroverted so if you see me on campus don’t be a stranger. I love going out to lunch with my friends, playing guitar, coffee breaks, hugs, Jesus, and I’m just a lover of people. Definitely, don’t be to shy to say hi. We might become coffee-mates or besties!!
